Life on the ranch is a little bit cold at the moment with the temperature reading a negative 13 and the wind blowing at various speeds from 15 - 30 MPH.
We have truly been spoiled for the most part this winter. On Monday, I walked on green grass around our trees and today I am walking on drifts of snow.
We as ranchers know the importance of snow in the winter months, but it does make feeding the livestock a little difficult. It also makes it difficult for livestock and wildlife although we give them as much protection as possible.
Our deer and antelope numbers are down this year due to some harsh spring storms and I am sure the October blizzad that killed so many cows didn't help them at all.
Winter is a harsh but beautiful time of year. The snow will melt in the spring and fill the reservoirs and provide moisture for the soil. It gives us time to relax, read and work on things we don't have time for the rest of the year.
